American Woman Says She Won’t Let Daughter Marry Nigerian Man — Here’s Why(Photo

A Black American woman stood on a lively U.S. street at night with her two daughters, all three holding ice cream. The discussion focused on her older daughter, who is a doctor. Facing a Ghanaian interviewer, the mother shared a story that is now circulating widely on social media, particularly on TikTok, Facebook and Nigerian X.

The woman said she would not allow her daughter to marry a Nigerian man, claiming that Nigerian men are very controlling.

However, the interviewer quickly interjected, explaining that not all Nigerian men are like the man she knew and that many of them are very nice. He then asked her how many Nigerians she had dated.

The woman responded that she had not dated any Nigerian man herself but knew people who had.

The interviewer then asked what type of Nigerian man she was referring to. At that point, the woman's daughter shook her head, seemingly indicating that she did not want to discuss Nigerian men or reveal the man's identity.

The interviewer playfully turned to the camera and said, "Chukwuemeka, be careful."

The woman quickly corrected him, saying the man was Yoruba because Chukwuemeka is an Igbo name.

The interviewer repeatedly asked whether she was sure the man was Yoruba and not Igbo, but the woman maintained that her daughter had dated a Yoruba man.

He then asked how long the relationship had lasted. The young woman responded, "Too long."

When the interviewer asked what happened, the mother quickly intervened, saying they should move on from the subject. She then proudly introduced her daughter, explaining that she was a doctor.

The interviewer responded playfully, saying he was serious about finding her daughter a responsible Ghanaian man. He explained that Ghanaians are providers.

The mother then asked whether he could build a house.

"Yes, of course," the Ghanaian interviewer replied.

The daughter whispered something into his ear, and he responded, "We can."

The mother asked whether he meant building a house the traditional way, and the interviewer confirmed that he did.

He explained that building a house was part of maintaining a family and that he understood what she was trying to say.

The mother continued by asking whether the man would take care of the house, family and children.

"That is not a problem," the interviewer replied.

The mother then said that taking care of the family was the basic responsibility, to which the interviewer agreed.

She went on to explain that, in her experience, Nigerian men in America expect women to build the house for them.

"They want us to build the house. It is that bad," she said.

The interviewer appeared surprised and burst into laughter, saying he had never known Nigerians to be like that.

The woman clarified that she was referring to Nigerians living in America.

The interviewer then suggested that perhaps Nigerians back home were different. The woman responded that those back home might not be like that, but the ones in America were.

When the interviewer attempted to ask whether the experience with the Nigerian man had hurt her daughter, the young woman quickly interrupted, saying, "We are not talking about that anymore."

The video, which features the caption "Not ALL Nigerian Men are CONTROLLING... Where is this Yoruba man!?", has sparked reactions across social media.

The original poster, @Unabombaar (Marquis Of Infamy), described the incident as another disgrace Yorubas have brought to Nigeria on the global stage.

The post has also attracted ethnically charged reactions, with some users defending their groups while others attacked different ethnic communities.

What began as a conversation about one woman's experience has now become another source of tribal arguments on Nigerian social media.
