Influencer and entrepreneur Sophia Momodu has sent a message to mothers following her speech about postpartum depression. Kemi Filani reported that Sophia had attended the Columbia University UNGA event, where he spoke about her pregnancy and struggle with postpartum depression. Now, on her social media page, she sent a message to mothers, telling them not to suffer in silence.
She said no woman should be ashamed to ask for help and no family member should underestimate what it means to support a mother’s mental health. Sophia said she wasn’t just sharing her story; she was calling for a world where every mother feels seen, supported, and reminded that she deserves care too. “Yesterday, I stood on a global stage at Columbia University, NYC and spoke about something I used only to whisper: Postpartum Depression at Tales by Moonlight, UNGA81 🎙️ To speak about it on a global stage, I had to go back to the beginning.
PPD is a conversation we can no longer afford to ignore. It touches women across every culture and background, yet it’s still misunderstood, underdiagnosed and wrapped in silence. And for women of colour especially, the barriers to maternal mental health support run even deeper. So let’s be clear: Postpartum depression is not a reflection of your strength. It’s not a measure of your ability to mother.
It’s not a sign of how much you love your child. It’s a health condition. And it deserves compassion…not shame. I told my story because the things we’re most afraid to say out loud are often exactly what someone else needs to hear to feel less alone. Here’s what I want you to take with you: 🕊️ No mother should suffer in silence 🕊️ No woman should be ashamed to ask for help 🕊️ No family should underestimate what it means to support a mother’s mental health When we care for the mother, we care for the child.
When we educate a community, we change lives. When we make room for honest conversations, we permit women to heal. This isn’t just my story. It’s a call for a world where every mother feels seen, supported, and reminded that she deserves care too. The conversation continues. Who’s joining me? During her speech, Sophia opened up about how she was mocked for getting pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar, despite her father being a pastor. She said it was difficult because of the stigma, and she had to find her strength through it all.
Recall that in 2024, Davido filed a lawsuit, demanding joint custody of Imade as he claimed Sophia was denying him access to her and was extorting money from him, which she denied. A week later, she had opposed his joint custody battle, citing the death of his son, among others, as reasons the singer is unfit to raise their daughter on his own. Last year, Davido announced that he had finally reunited with his mini-me as he shared photos of him with Imade. The music star declared it the best day of his life.
