The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the suit seeking to compel the police to reopen investigations into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad). The suit was filed by the NGO Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, asking the court to issue an order of mandamus directing the Inspector‑General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to conduct a fresh investigation.
In a judgment delivered on Thursday, September 24, 2026 Justice James Omotosho ruled that the NGO lacked the legal right to file the suit and that the case had no merit. He noted that although the group claimed the initial investigation was not thorough, it failed to present the first investigation report to support its argument. Justice Omotosho said the court would not rely on speculation without concrete evidence and cautioned lawyers against filing frivolous cases.
He also warned those granting social‑media interviews while cases are still pending in court. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, in Lagos State.
