The Most "Un-american" State: Voodoo, Swamps, And Magic In Louisiana. Look!

Hey Nairalanders,

When people think of the United States, they usually imagine New York skyscrapers or Hollywood. But there is one state that feels like an entirely different country dropped into the middle of America: Louisiana.

If you visit the deep south, especially New Orleans, you quickly realize this place runs on a completely different vibration. The culture in Louisiana is a wild mix of French, Spanish, and West African roots. Walking through the French Quarter, you can smell the rich, spicy aroma of Gumbo and Jambalaya - dishes that actually share a striking resemblance to our own West African soups and Jollof rice! The culinary connection is undeniable.

But what really blew my mind was the mystical side of the state. Louisiana is famous for its bayous (spooky, foggy swamps filled with ancient trees and massive alligators) and its deep-rooted history with Voodoo. It’s a place where history, music, and spiritual mysteries blend together in a way you won't see anywhere else in the US. It’s both beautiful and deeply haunting.

Our team at togeday captured some of these incredible vibes, the history, and the jaw-dropping swamp landscapes in a quick cinematic visual guide. You can watch our short breakdown of Louisiana right here:
