TikTok users across Northern Nigeria have been experiencing major disruptions for days, with many now relying on VPNs to access the platform. Checks from Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and other Northern states show that since Monday, the app has been failing to load properly. Users complained of frozen feeds, videos refusing to load, and uploads stalling on regular mobile data. The development comes weeks after TikTok announced it removed 4.8 million videos in Nigeria and suspended 120,000 LIVE sessions in Q1 2026 for violating community guidelines, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser.
As of now, TikTok has not issued an official statement, and it remains unclear whether the issue is a technical routing problem, a telco‑level restriction, or a government directive.
