Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti says serving God has carried him through the most dangerous moments of his political journey , including an alleged assassination attempt in July 2015. Otti who spoke at the Abia Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service in Umuahia, recalled how a cancelled Abuja meeting pushed him to leave the city earlier than planned and despite objections from friends, he boarded the only flight to Owerri.
He said that ,that night, 12 armed men stormed his Maitama residence, killed two policemen, and searched the compound for him. When they couldn’t find him, they jumped into the next compound and stripped the entire building, convinced he was hiding there. He believes his sudden departure was divine protection. He also said that friends tried to discourage him from entering politics while some advised him to seek traditional protection.
He said that he refused, and chose faith over fear. He quoted Joshua 24:15,and urged people to consciously choose whom they will serve...he reaffirmed that “as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.”
