The sources said that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the k!lling and agreed to lead troops to the gang’s hideouts in Jibiyal Forest to facilitate the recovery of weapons and arrest of other members. However, at about 8:00 p.m. on October 2, troops, accompanied by local hunters, reportedly encountered other members of the gang while moving towards the hideout, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the encounter, the captured suspect was neutralised, while one of the hunters sustained a gunshot wound. The injured hunter was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The sources said further offensive operations were ongoing to apprehend or neutralise other fleeing members of the gang. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to track down those responsible for attacks on security personnel, dismantle armed criminal networks and restore peace in Plateau State.

Faulting his claim, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, had called Amaechi a liar who was using his mother’s death to attract public sympathy for ADC. However, Onanuga said Amaechi has shown how terribly low he can go in politics. Posting on X, the presidential aide wrote: “Wike lampoons Rotimi Amaechi over Amaechi’s ridiculous claim that President Tinubu’s policies made him unable to buy the drugs to save his old mother.

“Amaechi has shown how terribly low he can go to play his politics. Such a man cannot be entrusted, along with his boss, who has a box full of corruption and money-laundering cases, to pilot the affairs of our country. “In any way, we need not worry. Amaechi had said that his principal, Atiku Abubakar, is unelectable.”

He claimed that Obi’s name would not appear on the ballot paper in 2027 and advised his congregation to look out for the symbol representing the candidate they intend to support.
