Signs Your Application Has Outgrown It's Architecture
5 signs your application has outgrown its architecture: 1) every change affects unrelated functionality (tight coupling); 2) deployments are becoming dangerous; 3) one service failure affects everything - an unnecessarily large failure blast radius; 4) database performance is deteriorating; 5) development teams keep stepping on each other. A large application doesn't automatically need microservices - sometimes a modular monolith is right; in other cases selectively extracting independent business capabilities makes sense.
The real question: can your system's important parts evolve, deploy, scale and fail independently? (OP followed up with posts on what each microservices layer does for business, and microservices vs monolith guidance.)
