University Of Chicago Bans First Year Students From Using AI For Assignments

The University of Chicago is banning generative AI, laptops, phones, and wearables in its core social science courses for undergraduates starting this fall. The policy, outlined in a memo from division head Jenny Trinitapoli, will require students to read assignments on paper and complete coursework independently, without AI assistance. The goal is to teach students "to read, write, and think without dependence on AI," extending a similar device ban the university's law school introduced earlier this year.

Reasonable accommodations will still be made for students with disabilities, and the policy applies only to undergraduate courses, not graduate programs. Source: The Chronicle of Higher Education https://www.instagram.com/p/DdOZ3lHDKeU/?stkn=MWdhZzRpaHVpNXAyNA==
