Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State came alive on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as the community celebrated its vibrant Iné (New Yam) Festival.
The colourful celebration featured the ceremonial cutting and tasting of the first new yam by the traditional ruler and elders, followed by spectacular masquerade displays, traditional dances, drumming, processions and cultural performances.
Kinsmen from home and the diaspora gathered to celebrate the harvest, honour their heritage and strengthen family and community bonds. Community leaders also used the occasion to emphasise unity, peace, respect for tradition and collective development.
From the palace to the town square, the festival showcased the rich cultural heritage of Onicha-Ugbo and the enduring spirit of thanksgiving, renewal and communal prosperity.
