“Even though money can’t buy happiness, it can buy time” – TG Omori shares his kidney failure experience and how his brother saved him (Video)

Nigerian music video director and cinematographer ThankGod Omori, better known as TG Omori, has opened up about his battle with kidney failure. In an interview, he revealed that he has been battling kidney failure for over 6 months in a hospital in Ikoyi, with only close industry friends like Olamide, Fireboy, Asake, Rema, Young John, and Zlatan knowing about it. He shared how his brother gave him his kidney after it took 9 months to find a donor.

According to him, 6 people were willing to donate, but after a mismatch, his brother donated, only for his body to reject the transplant. Omori said the doctor tried again, but it wasn’t responding, and his brother still has to live with only one kidney. The music director also spoke about the huge amount of money he spent on healthcare, especially dialysis. He said that though money can’t buy happiness, he realised it can buy time, as regular dialysis costs between 50k and 70k, depending on the hospital.

He explained that patients sometimes need three dialysis sessions in a week, meaning a minimum-wage person is dead already on one session. “My brother gave me his kidney after it took us 9 months to find a donor. The doctor told me it wasn’t a match and my body wasn’t accepting it. The doctor tried again, but it wasn’t responding. My brother still has to live with only one kidney.”😭💔 —TG Omori pic.twitter.com/lCDb2KwoVr — carter🌚 (@carter8f) September 23, 2026 “Money is actually important because I can’t lie to you; we’ve spent a lot of crázy money.

Dialysis regularly is like 70k; some hospitals charge 50k per session. But for me, where I used to do mine, or where I did mine, it was around 150 to 200k because it’s like exclusive. It’s like a private kind of facility. So sometimes you need three dialysis sessions in a week. So that’s about 500k a week. So a minimum-wage person is dead already after one session. So now, you’re waiting a year for a transplant.

And for that one year, you have to be on dialysis for a year, so that’s 500k. That’s if you don’t have any complications, because sometimes they have to run tests and give you medications. So sometimes, your bill might hit 200k per session. So in a week, you’re probably looking at 600k; if you calculate that in a year, it’s 31 million. So automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, it can’t serve you.

You know, it’s crázy. So you actually have to have money, not just money; you have to have people who have money also to support you. So if you look at things like that, you understand that even though money can’t buy happiness, money can still buy some time”. In 2024, Omori spoke about his battle with kidney failure, sharing that his brother had donated a kidney to him. Sharing a cryptic post about how much power the human mind holds, he said that pain had no power over him, and that he hoped the designer he wears would cover all the scars he’s gotten so far.

He promised his supporters that he would be back in action by 2025. His uplifting tweet left fans in awe as they commended him for his strength. Others were concerned over the fact that he’s still active on social media, despite the fact that he’s battling kidney failure. TG Omori is the Headies-winning director behind some of the defining videos of modern Afrobeats, from the Marlian era with Naira Marley to Asake’s run of Terminator, Bandana and Organise.
