If you just got a new tattoo and noticed that the skin is becoming dry, tight, itchy or flaky?
Don't panic. Some dryness and peeling can happen while a new tattoo is healing. The important thing is knowing how to care for it properly.
Here are some simple tips:
✅ Moisturize when the tattoo feels dry Use a gentle moisturizer as recommended by your tattoo artist. Don't apply too much at once.
✅ Don't wash the tattoo too much Keep it clean, but avoid constantly washing it because excessive washing can irritate the healing skin.
✅ Avoid very hot water Use lukewarm water when cleaning your tattoo. Very hot water can make dry skin worse.
✅ Don't scratch or peel it A healing tattoo can become itchy and start peeling. Don't scratch or pull the skin off. Let it heal naturally.
✅ Avoid products with strong fragrance Some scented products can irritate sensitive, healing skin. Keep your aftercare routine simple.
✅ Protect your tattoo from too much sun Excessive sun exposure can damage the skin and fade tattoo ink. Once the tattoo has healed, use proper sun protection.
✅ Don't over-moisturize Your tattoo needs moisture, but covering it with a thick layer of cream is not better. Apply an appropriate amount and let your skin breathe.
The main thing is to be patient. Your tattoo needs time to heal, so don't rush the process.
