The reductions came as Brent crude traded below $100 per barrel, while the United States benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, also declined to $91.17 per barrel.

In Lagos, the Dangote Refinery reduced its PMS price from N1,350 to N1,325 per litre, representing a N25 reduction. Ascon, Integrated, Pinnacle and Sahara also cut their prices by N24, with their products now selling between N1,326 and N1,327 per litre.

MRS reduced its petrol price by N20 to N1,332 per litre, while Wosbab recorded a current price of N1,330. The latest reductions followed a mixed movement in the international crude market.

According to Oilprice.com, Brent crude fell to $99.77 per barrel, while WTI dropped by $1.20, or 1.30 per cent, to $91.17 per barrel. Recall that Brent hit $109 last week.

Based on the two rates, the difference between the official NFEM rate and the parallel-market rate stood at approximately N61.22 per dollar. At the parallel-market rate of N1,389, a person purchasing $100 would require about N138,900, while $1,000 would cost approximately N1.389 million. Actual rates available to buyers and sellers may differ from the figures depending on the location, dealer, transaction volume and prevailing demand and supply conditions.

The naira’s movement comes amid ongoing developments in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market, with dollar liquidity and monetary policy remaining key factors affecting exchange-rate movements. The Central Bank of Nigeria continues to monitor conditions in the foreign exchange market as the naira maintains trading levels around N1,300 per dollar at the official market.

Reuters reported earlier in September that the naira had remained relatively stable, with factors including central bank dollar sales and weaker import demand providing support.

For Wednesday, September 23, the latest available figures therefore place the dollar at N1,327.78 at the NFEM and around N1,389 in the parallel market. However, exchange rates can change throughout the day as market participants respond to shifts in dollar demand, supply and liquidity.

Responding, Dangote said wider ownership of the refinery would help spread prosperity and wealth across Africa. “Well, it’s very important because that is the only way to spread prosperity and worth throughout Africa. And like I said, this is not going to be the first and the last. We will continue with even our fertilizer.

By the time we finish listing, every single one will own part of our businesses and we will create a pool of cash…” Davido then thanked the businessman, saying, “Thank you, sir.”

The appearance came amid the ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO, which opened on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

The offer comprises 4.1 billion shares priced at ₦525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, meaning eligible investors can participate from ₦5,250. The refinery has been promoted as a “people’s IPO,” with Dangote saying the offering is intended to broaden ownership and allow ordinary Nigerians and other eligible investors to acquire stakes in the business.
