If you drive a car with tinted glass in Nigeria, you probably know this feeling. You're cruising normally. AC on. Music playing. You're minding your business. Then, somewhere ahead, you spot a police checkpoint. Suddenly, your attention changes. You look at the officer. Then you look at your windscreen. Then you remember that one friend who told you: "Bro, tint permit dey? And just like that, the peaceful journey has become a small government examination.
Some people slow down. Some start winding down the glass before they even reach the checkpoint. Some begin explaining that the tint is factory-fitted. Some have the permit but can't find it when they're asked. And some simply pray that the officer is in a good mood that morning. The funny thing is that the tinted-glass permit situation in Nigeria has changed several times, so even people who followed the process before may no longer have the complete picture.
And I know this personally because I wasn't always just the guy writing about the permit.....
