Pastor Iren referenced Igbobi College in Lagos, which was established in 1932 through the efforts of the Anglican and Methodist churches. He mentioned former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and former House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila among the school’s notable alumni. He also cited Baptist Boys’ High School in Abeokuta, Ogun State, which was founded by Baptist missionaries and attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“When anybody says, ‘What has the church done?’ This is evidence: Igbobi College has produced Yemi Osinbajo, Babatunde Fashola, Femi Gbajabiamila. Baptist Boys’ High School, Abeokuta, produced Olusegun Obasanjo. The first hospitals and schools were built by Christians,” he stated. Pastor Iren’s remarks draw attention to the historical role of Christian missionary organisations in the development of formal education and healthcare in Nigeria.

His comments have renewed attention on the contributions of Christian missions to Nigeria’s educational and healthcare sectors, as well as their influence on generations of Nigerians who passed through their institutions. The report covers the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, and places Nigeria on the Child Soldiers Prevention Act (CSPA) list alongside Afghanistan, Burma, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iran, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen. Under the CSPA, countries on the list may face restrictions on certain forms of US security assistance and the commercial licensing of military equipment, subject to applicable exceptions, a presidential waiver or other provisions under the law.

The report stated that the restrictions would take effect from October 1, 2026, and apply throughout the relevant fiscal year unless an exemption or waiver was granted.

They are the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Bill 2026 and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Amendment Bill 2026.

The proposed legislation seeks to consolidate existing laws on drug-related offences and reposition the NSIB as an independent, multimodal safety investigation authority with jurisdiction beyond aviation accidents. Both bills were transmitted pursuant to Section 58(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which provides for the presentation of bills to the President for assent after passage by the National Assembly.

In his letter on the NDLEA Bill, Tinubu said the proposed legislation would repeal the existing NDLEA Act and the Indian Hemp Act and establish a consolidated legal framework for combating drug-related offences. According to the President, the bill seeks to strengthen enforcement against the cultivation, processing, sale, trafficking and use of illicit drugs, while empowering the agency to investigate persons suspected of involvement in drug-related activities.
