At Monday’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application seeking the termination of the case. Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed Adeyemi’s case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police, identifying some loopholes.

He said the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi while operating the purported agency constituted offences that could be prosecuted by the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

The DPPF added that a fresh charge had been filed before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh without delay.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified loopholes in the original charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police. Why the government withdrew the charge Oyedepo explained that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency involved offences that fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that the government intended to arraign Adeyemi without delay. The DPPF subsequently asked Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in line with the law. Defence counsel accepts application Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application.

Consequently, Justice Umar granted the request and struck out the eight-count charge, allowing the Federal Government to proceed with the case before the FCT High Court.

Two co-defendants remain at large Adeyemi, 38, was facing trial alongside two other defendants in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 over allegations of conspiracy and forgery.

The two co-defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, were reportedly at large, and their surnames were not provided. The fresh charge is expected to form the basis of Adeyemi’s arraignment before the FCT High Court.

Reports gathered that the deceased was a widow who had left her home alongside her youngest child to visit Mbaise.

Investigation claimed that Mbaise had a prior plan to sell the child and murdered the mother to carry out his scheme without interference. A neighbour reportedly spotted him from afar while carrying out his devious deeds.

The unusual activity drew the attention of law enforcement, who later discovered the shallow grave. The suspect was said to have been involved in a similar case in 2015 where he allegedly killed his 25-year-old girlfriend, Chino Ella, whom he impregnated while married with children.

He reportedly caused her death by forcefully aborting the pregnancy and burying her body in a shallow grave within the same compound.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities compiling evidence from past and present cases. At the same time, efforts to ascertain the safe recovery of the missing toddler are ongoing.
