There’s a difference.

Of course Messi performed there.
And he eventually completed the international story by winning the Copa América and World Cup.
That is Messi’s strongest answer. I’ve never denied it.

Now THAT is where the argument starts limping.😂
Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time leading scorer and has scored at multiple major international tournaments across his career.
More importantly, Portugal won Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League during his international career.
You can argue about his performances in individual matches.
You can criticize particular tournaments.
You can even say Messi has had the better international career.
But calling Ronaldo mediocre for Portugal?
That isn’t analysis.
That’s emotion wearing a football jersey. 😭

Then he moved to Saudi Arabia and continued producing goals at an extraordinary rate.
And internationally?
Portugal didn’t suddenly erase him from history because he left Madrid.
He remained their captain and all-time leading scorer.
Now, does that mean everything after Madrid was better than his Real Madrid years?
Absolutely not.
Madrid was the peak.
